Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit to Island County Criminal History, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. By using the website, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate site log of the terms entered in those search fields.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email message when needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems receive routine technical information when a visitor loads a page:

  • Page-view dates, times, and visit duration
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • IP address assigned to the device
  • Pages viewed during the visit
  • Referring website, when one is available

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We and our analytics services use them to understand traffic patterns, such as which pages are read and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a search query to the selected partner tool
  • Maintain site availability and performance
  • Find and correct technical faults
  • Measure which reference pages are useful
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Island County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Island County Sheriff's Office, county courts, Washington State Patrol, and Washington Sex Offender Public Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information entered in a partner tool. We do not control those practices, so review the provider's policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Island County offices, Washington agencies, courts, legal resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to these limited recipients:

  • Analytics vendors that measure use and performance
  • Search partners that process a visitor's submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving site ads
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use customary safeguards for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor provided information, we will remove it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can vary by residence and applicable law. Washington's Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, governs government records, while the Criminal Records Privacy Act, chapter 10.97 RCW, governs state criminal-history dissemination. For information held by this private site, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data we hold
  • Ask what information we maintain about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Object to certain forms of processing

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy. A changed version will appear here with a new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
